Universe gifts and pics

My work trip to SF went incredibly well, I'm so glad to say. By my choice, I declined free beer, wine and other alcohol and didn't feel deprived. A welcome state of mind, to be sure.

Evan and I did something unexpected this Saturday morning; he came with me to Mod Physique and dropped me off and got the oil changed in his car while I took class. He then came by and met Jessa, the instructor, and got to see the studio where I've been going 5 days a week! Having a visual helps. :) Then we drove across state lines to go visit winnett and pick up a free sewing machine! She's moving for the first time in 15 years and was ready to rid herself of some things she didn't use. Like this sewing machine, complete with its own case. She and I were talking at snottygrrl's birthday party last month and Winnett either asked if I wanted a free sewing machine or if I knew someone who would— and since I've been machine-less since 2010, this sounded great. I've plugged it in and it does work, though I think it would help for me to find a booklet (if possible) to figure out the proper way to thread it, and it needs a tune-up. But I'm thrilled. A hand-me-across sewing machine of similar heft and style to mine that I'd had since 1988!!! :D

A ring also arrived that wasn't exactly designed for me to particular specifications, but was generally designed with some elements that I told this particular jeweler I liked, and I'm so smitten with the outcome. With a shop name like this, how could I not have been at least intrigued?

Pics would be linked below, but after spending way too much time on this, I'm linking to a Tumblr post I made so you can see the damn photos. I seriously tried to link into Photobucket, Snapfish, and Flickr as well, and couldn't get links to work. ARGH!! So here you go:

Oh, and I decided today to give up playing Candy Crush for the month of March. Instead, I shall endeavor to do other things, including working on my two fics. :P

Congrats on making it through the free-drinks weekend. I am very proud of you! Yay!

OMG! I love that ring. That is exactly the kind of ring I can get excited about.

Thank you! A whole *week* of free alcohol, from the flight to it being offered every day at work. The really wonderful thing is that this is how it is now because it is my choice. I'm at a place in my life where abstaining is my choice for now. Knowing that has given me all sorts of peace.

Did you go look at this silversmith's other pieces? I resonate so much to her style. I'd been wanting a larger, organic ring to pretty much wear all the time on my right middle finger, and this is it. :)

You know, I think I hemmed my prom outfit or one quite like it on a machine like that. In my case, it was a feminized black sequinned suit (as in coat + bowtie), complete with bell-bottom slacks and a top hat. In any event, good on the acquisition.

Good on making it through the weekend, too. I'm so glad to hear society is finally getting it through their heads that not everyone drinks and that's okay.

Thank you! I'm going to take it to a local store to get the tune-up and hope that it works wonders. ;)

Most of my colleagues and peers (especially in this case, as so many of them like me are remote and many came from our international locations) have no idea of my past, so they were just trying to make my having to work during karaoke and such better by wanting to bring me beer and wine. ♥ I suggested they enjoy for me while I worked- a handy 'out.' The culture where I work is very drinking-centric, which hasn't been an issue until I was being asked to come to HQ so often. We'll see how the local office culture evolves.

The ring is splendid! How lovely! (Also, nice hands!)

I'm so happy with it! It was great that the designer let me know she'd make something but there was absolutely no pressure if it wasn't really what I had in mind— but it is. And thank you for the compliment! I've always had a fondness for how adorable my feet are, but my hands are attractive as well. ;)

Thank you! I resonated to this designer and just wrote to her, just letting her know that I loved her style and why and that I'd be thrilled if she made a ring or two in the small to tiny range because then I could wear one. :)

Yes! I'm so excited about the machine! I'm going to take it into a local shop on Wednesday to get it tuned up and find out how to thread it, and make sure the tension is all sorted, all of that good stuff. The hazard of this, of course, is then wanting to get back into sewing, though since I'm not into costuming, may not pull too much. Not that there's anything wrong with sewing, but I do have plenty of clothes and I tend to love shopping at Goodwill anyway. But it could be very handy for the occasional project.
