Update on the Celtic braid cardigan

The coloring is a little funny, probably due to the fluroscent lights in my room. Anyway, I'm finishing up the left front. The part in the middle is the back, and then the completed right front. After this I'll begin working on both sleeves at the same time, then there's assembly, sewing in a zipper (which should be interesting), and completion! Sadly the instructions for the baby hat were misleading and now I find I need to take out several inches so I've put it off to the side. Maybe I'll make my own pair of fingerless gloves first.

Today it's gone from sunny and still to blustery and grey, my favorite! And my housemate is off at an all-day Acupuncture thing! :D So I'm about to start calling people and knitting, bundled up in a down comforter, then later on I'll make a fire and do some writing.

Oh, and the opera last night was absolutely amazing. It's being recorded all four performances and will be the first recording of this work by Glass! His company will remaster it and then be for sale next spring. Very exciting times for Portland Opera, and I'm so gratified to be on their staff while this is happening.

I'll be a bit scarce over the next week

Boromir life is good by fifmeister
With work/opera/choir/opera/beta'ing/more opera/more work/more choir/more beta'ing/more opera, I'm probably not going to be posting a whole lot between now and the 15th. But I'll check in daily and doubtless I'll have a squeeing post about Orphée after I see it tomorrow, opening night. :)

Busy, but fun times!! :)

A few things, not to do with Philip Glass. One, on the mundane but practical side, today is sunny and breezy, so I'm doing a bunch of hand-washing that can then dry outside. Two: yesterday I spent a few fun hours with [info]snottygrrl that was primarily to do with her new chairs, but ended up being a fabulous shopping spree at the most incredible thrift store I've yet gone to in Portland, Better Bargains Thrift Store. Now I need more clothes like a hole in my head, but I did cull a lot before moving cross-country and there were just great finds! Including random pieces of artwork/handcrafts and me buying a lot of green clothes. [info]snottygrrl said that green represents the heart chakra, so I'm intrigued by what that means at this point in my life. Three, I found out that my other stepsister, the older one (but still younger than I am by four years) is three months pregnant. I'll phone her soon.

Last, but definitely not least: I went by the store on my way home because one of the Opera former young artists (who sat behind me at the Glass event last night) mentioned nachos, and I decided I really wanted to make some. Oh, and have I mentioned that my housemate is gone for two and a half days??!! :D :D :D It's just me and the cats!!! So I bought an avocado and was going along the aisles when I saw… Tim Tams. I couldn't believe it. Apparently they've decided to try them on a U.S. market or something. You'd better believe I bought them and will have them with my lunch, whatever that ends up being.

Monday morning paradise is...

... getting up, having a cup of coffee, and then having the what turns out to be best massage therapist of your life give you an hour and a half massage at your home for a cost of $25.

OH MY GOD.

At that price, we now have a standing Monday morning appointment. He did some serious work on me and it's only just the beginning. I'm going to be sore as all get out, but I expected that. I'm sucking down loads of water, too. The only missing element is to soak in the tub with Epsom salts, but I'll work on taking care of that next week or the following.

If that's not the best start for a single woman on a Monday morning, I'm not sure what is.

I'll just be over here, a pleasantly aching pile of goo.

It was a good day. Truly!

Portland OR
You know why? Here's a few reasons:
~ went by to my new roommate's house and signed a lease, got a key, and we chatted. It's going to be a very, very good fit. She's excited I'm moving in, I'm excited to be moving in. Our personalities will mesh well, and I'll have plenty of alone time to write and whatnot. And heat. My room has a heating vent that works well. :) I'll be moved in next Saturday, I expect.
~ finally finished up the baby booties for [info]fungus_files' newest bub and got them posted to her.
~ had a wonderful, so much needed phone conversation with [info]risiepookie this morning. I'd begun to despair of ever actually getting her on the phone, and we had a good half hour chat. What a treat!
~ enjoying the reality of being able to have weekend plans with both [info]evannichols and [info]snottygrrl since we all live here. It's just so novel!
~ work included a viewing of The Princess Bride, with pizza, movie snacks and popcorn. I really do love working at Portland Opera.
~ quick but appreciated call to [info]cim_halfling. ♥
~ my housemate is out at a play tonight, and with my hallmate gone, I've had the house to myself since I got home, so have been able to update my website and do other things and have music on and just totally chill out. Bedtime is coming soon..

The one WTF element is the State of Oregon's revenue department. I posted here early in tax season that I hadn't filled out my OR state income tax form properly, so they sent me a bill for $92. Which I promptly paid online. Then, a couple of weeks later, they mailed me a check for $92, saying I'd overpaid. If that weren't eyeroll-worthy enough, today I received in the mail a follow up bill, saying that not only did I owe them $92, but they've added on a 5% late fee. o_O
Um... I'll be calling the Department of Revenue tomorrow to please ask them to make up their minds one way or the other.

Tomorrow's Friday! Fics are being written! I'll be moving to a warm and cheerful environment! What a great thing. Oh, and I saw the new Star Trek. I was entertained, and had an insta-crush on the young Spock. No in-depth analysis from me on this film.

I did go in Saturday morning to work at the Opera, but since the weather was so nice, I reached almost nobody in the 2 1/2 hours I was there. Oh well. Today alone, however, I've re-colored my hair, been drinking loads of water (as opposed to Diet Coke, for once), am giddy with anticipation of seeing [info]cim_halfling in a few hours, I do believe (!!!), and will very shortly have a Slave Breakers fic that I'd love to find a quick beta for. That seems to be one realm in which I can actually write in a more romantic mode, and it seems believable. Mac just created such endearing characters…

Wow. Hair's done, groceries were bought, a lovely rendition of Bairstow's "I Sat Down" was sung yesterday morning, fic's been written, and thanks to the Lord John books on tape, I'm about 2/3 the way done with the sleeves on my sweater. I like! Oh, need to take pictures of that project.

Lastly, a funny from work on Friday. One of the guys in the box office who I'm pretty sure is family (an irreverent, big bearish type guy) saw my outfit and said, "You wear the best clothes! You have such color coordination!" I had on some floral pants and an interesting top, that particular combination one I'd not put together until Friday. Before I left their office, he said, "I have a new title for you! You're Our Lady of Color Combination." I laughed at that and replied, "I need a tiara with a title like that." So I'm now OLCC. ;)
